SUNSHINE COAST HARLEY-DAVIDSON® Harley-Davidson® Dyno Tuning FAQs
What is Harley-Davidson® Dyno Tuning and why do I need it?
Dyno Tuning is the process of professionally calibrating your motorcycle's engine using a Chassis Dynamometer. At SUNSHINE COAST HARLEY-DAVIDSON®, we use this technology to adjust your air-to-fuel ratio and ignition timing to perfection. You need it to ensure that your engine, exhaust, and intake are all communicating correctly, resulting in maximum horsepower, increased torque, and a smoother power band.
What is the difference between a Powerpass and a Custom Dyno Tune?
A Powerpass is a diagnostic tool used to benchmark your bike's current performance, providing precise horsepower and torque readings at various RPMs. A Custom Dyno Tune is a comprehensive service where our technicians actively modify your bike's fuel mapping. While a Powerpass measures performance, a Custom Tune optimises it for better throttle response and engine health.
Do I need a Dyno Tune after installing an exhaust or Stage Kit?
Yes. Whenever you change how air enters or exits your Milwaukee-Eight® or Twin Cam engine, the factory ECM map becomes outdated. A professional dyno session at Sunshine Coast Harley-Davidson® ensures your bike doesn't run too "lean" (hot) or too "rich" (wasting fuel), protecting your engine from long-term damage while unlocking the full potential of your new performance parts.
Does Dyno Tuning improve fuel efficiency?
This depends on the goal of the Dyno Tune and each individual bike. If the goal is to maximise the perfect balance of fuel and air mixture then commonly, yes. By achieving the optimal stoichiometric ratio (the perfect balance of air and fuel), your engine operates more efficiently. However, many riders focus on the peak performance gains which will focus on maximising power and torque, not fuel economy. Therefore, a tailored tune can result in better fuel economy during highway cruising and a significantly cooler-running engine in Sunshine Coast’s summer traffic or it can maximised power and performance. The decision is yours.
How long does a professional Dyno Tuning session take?
A standard Powerpass benchmark can be completed relatively quickly, while a Full Custom Dyno Tune typically takes several hours of dedicated laboratory time. This allows our technicians to test the bike under various loads and throttle positions to ensure 100% accuracy. Contact us at (07) 5450 1837 to book your slot in our Sunshine Coast performance lab.
